Sentosa Cove is a small, quiet community where neighbours recognise each other's animals on the boardwalk, and a missing pet is noticed. Many families say goodbye privately on the terrace or by the water before collection. Later, a few friends might gather for drinks at sunset to share stories, which can be a gentle way to mark the loss. Nobody needs to rush any of it.
Island life can feel insulated, and grief sometimes has nowhere to go. Funeral traditions in Singapore and your pet
Cremation is the usual choice for people in Singapore, at about 81.16%[1]. For pets, that often means the funeral is a gathering around the ashes rather than a burial: a celebration of life at home, a scattering on a favorite walk or a small planting in the garden. None of those needs a venue, and all of them can happen weeks later, when everyone is ready.

Sentosa weather and your pet's farewell
Wherever you are, the same rule holds: keep your pet cool, indoors and out of direct sun while you plan the farewell. In warm weather, hold the home goodbye within a few hours or ask the vet to hold your pet in a cold room. In cold weather you have more time, but frozen ground can delay a burial.

Public and private options can differ hugely. Tokyo's Shinjuku ward collects pets under 25 kg for a JPY 3,000 fee with communal cremation and no ashes returned [5]; a private communal cremation for a small pet costs about 4.8 times that, by our estimate [6]. Before you dig or scatter in Central
Before you plan a graveside ceremony in the garden or a scattering on a favorite walk, check the local rules. They're mostly about protecting water and other people's land, so they focus on depth, distance from wells and streams, and permission from whoever owns the land. Here's the picture for Central.
In Singapore, the national environment agency directs owners of dogs and cats to commercial animal crematoria, and home burial isn't practical for most families. Many providers include a short farewell or prayer session before cremation and offer columbarium niches for the ashes, from about SGD 300 [9]. Ask whether the ceremony and niche are priced separately.
What to do first, and what can wait
- Ask the clinic for a quiet room and some time, whether or not everything happened quickly. There's no rule that says you must walk out right after.
- Don't sign the aftercare form on the spot if you're unsure. The practice can hold your pet in cold storage for a day; ask for that and take the time to decide.
- Find out which crematory the practice uses, and whether you can choose a different one or take your pet home for burial instead.
- Request a paw print or a clipping of fur before your pet leaves the room; it's much harder to arrange later.
- If family couldn't get there in time, ask whether they can visit the clinic to say goodbye before the collection.
- Get the aftercare price on its own line, kept apart from the treatment charges, so the cost of the farewell itself is plain to see.
- Pencil in a gathering for later, for when the ashes are back or at the graveside, for the people who missed the day.
After the farewell: ways to keep the memory close
Households on Sentosa often divide their time between Singapore and homes abroad, with grandparents, siblings and grown children in several countries. Customs vary as widely: a Buddhist chant, a Hindu prayer, incense, a Christian blessing, or simply candles by the pool. Whatever you choose, sending photos and a few words to far-flung family helps everyone grieve together. The gesture matters more than the form.

Which nearby towns can I compare with Sentosa?
The closest communities we cover are Marina Bay (about 3 miles), Orchard (about 4 miles) and Singapore (about 7 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Sentosa too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Where are the providers that serve Sentosa actually based?
Some are local, and some run from Singapore, about 7 miles away. That is normal for a town this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for Sentosa and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.
Is cremation common in Singapore?
For people, yes: about 81.16%[1] of Singapore deaths end in cremation, according to Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Sentosa follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Can I be there when my pet is cremated if I live in Sentosa?
Possibly, but it may mean a drive. Smaller places often send pets to a crematory in a larger centre such as Singapore, so ask your vet which one they use and call it directly. Some families take their pet there themselves, hold the farewell in the car park or a quiet room, and stay while the cremation begins.
Is it normal to grieve this hard after a pet's funeral?
Yes. In an RSPCA survey of more than 4,000 bereaved owners, 66.9%[10] said they were surprised by how intense their grief was. The farewell often brings the loss home rather than ending it. How much does a pet funeral cost in Sentosa?
It depends mostly on whether you choose individual cremation, communal cremation or a cemetery grave, and on your pet's weight. Published examples are in the table on this page. A home ceremony before collection adds little. A viewing room, attended cremation or columbarium niche is priced by each provider, so ask for those items to be listed separately.
