Pet Funerals in Singapore: what to know
Pet funerals in Singapore range from a few minutes in the garden to a graveside service in a pet cemetery. What differs from country to country is how services are organised, what they cost and what the rules say about burial and scattering. This page covers Singapore as a whole; each city page adds local weather and nearby options.
How soon the ashes come back shapes the second half of a farewell in Singapore. By our estimate, 3 to 14 days is typical across the countries we track [1], with paid express options at one end and waits of a month at the other. Ask for a date on the first call, then plan the gathering around it.
We cover 5 communities in Singapore, from Singapore, Bukit Timah and Orchard to smaller towns.

How Singapore thinks about funerals and cremation
With about 81.16%[2] of people in Singapore cremated, a cremation is the familiar end to a funeral here, and many families want a pet's farewell to echo it on a small scale. You can borrow whatever feels right: a blessing, a moment of silence, a candle, a shared meal afterwards. Whatever your family would do for a person, a smaller, simpler version usually fits a pet.
The cremation figure for Singapore comes from Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). It counts people, not pets, so treat it as a guide to local attitudes rather than a pet statistic.
What a pet funeral costs in Singapore
Package names vary a lot across Asia, and a 'communal' package may exclude the farewell ceremony entirely. Before comparing prices in Singapore, ask three things: is my pet cremated alone, are the ashes returned, and is there time for a ceremony or prayers beforehand? The table shows published examples from the region.
Public and private options can differ hugely. Tokyo's Shinjuku ward collects pets under 25 kg for a JPY 3,000 fee with communal cremation and no ashes returned [3]; a private communal cremation for a small pet costs about 4.8 times that, by our estimate [4]. In one Japanese survey, about 30% of owners felt a funeral would help them avoid regret [5].
| Place and service | Price | What's included |
|---|---|---|
| Tokyo: witnessed cremation, 20–30 kg dog | JPY 60,500 [6] | Attended, with a monk chanting |
| Tokyo: individual cremation, 20–30 kg dog | JPY 38,500 [6] | Without attending |
| Japan: pet funeral hall package | JPY 60,000 to 80,000 [7] | Ceremony and cremation, 1–5 kg to 25–30 kg pet |
| Singapore: private cremation, 10–20 kg dog | SGD 480 [8] | Columbarium niche from SGD 300 |
| Hong Kong: individual cremation, 20–30 kg dog | HKD 3,000 [9] | Check whether a farewell ceremony is included |
None of the figures on this this page are ours alone: they rest on Singapore Pet Columbarium and PETMENTO (Hong Kong pet funeral provider).

What you can and can't do in Singapore
Beaches, rivers and lakes often have their own scattering rules, set by a different authority from parks, and some ask you to scatter a set distance from shore. Here's the general picture for Singapore; for the exact spot, check with whoever manages that land or water.
In Singapore, the national environment agency directs owners of dogs and cats to commercial animal crematoria, and home burial isn't practical for most families. Many providers include a short farewell or prayer session before cremation and offer columbarium niches for the ashes, from about SGD 300 [8]. Ask whether the ceremony and niche are priced separately.
A simple plan for the hours ahead
- Choose a day while your pet still has good moments, then arrange the vet's visit to the house and agree what happens afterwards, all in one call.
- Fill the days before with small favorites: an unhurried walk, a sunny spot on the floor, the food they're normally not allowed.
- Decide who will hold your pet and who would rather wait in another room. Both are loving choices, and nobody should be talked into either.
- Set out the blanket you're happy to send with them, plus any letter, drawing or toy you'd like cremated or buried alongside.
- When the vet has finished, take as long as you need. An hour's delay on the pickup is fine, and the vet can leave the room if you'd rather be alone.
- Walk out to the car or van with your pet if you'd like to. Many teams use a stretcher or basket and will let you help carry.
Remembering your pet in Singapore
If the loss sits heavier than people around you seem to expect, you're far from alone. In an RSPCA survey of bereaved owners, 34.5%[11] had been told it was 'just a pet'. Our grief check-in is a quiet way to notice how you're coping, and vet schools and animal charities run free pet-loss helplines if talking would help.

Questions people ask
Can I bury my pet at home in Singapore?
Often yes, with conditions such as burial depth, distance from wells and waterways and whether you own the land. Cities and homeowner associations can be stricter than the wider rules. If you rent or might move, cremation followed by burying the ashes in a planter keeps the grave portable.
Do I need a permit to hold a pet funeral in Singapore?
Not for the farewell itself. Gathering at home, saying a few words and holding a small ceremony need no permission anywhere in Singapore. Permits come into it for what happens next: burial on someone else's land, scattering in parks, on beaches or on water, and any use of a public space for a larger gathering. When in doubt, ask the landowner or the local council first.
Where can I scatter my pet's ashes in Singapore?
Private land with the owner's permission is simplest. Parks, beaches and public land have their own rules, and many ask you to request permission first. Choose a quiet spot, scatter low and downwind, away from paths and water, and consider keeping a little back in a keepsake.
Can I be present at my pet's cremation in Singapore?
Many crematories offer witnessed or attended cremation, especially around the larger cities. It usually costs more and needs booking ahead. In rural parts of Singapore, the nearest crematory that offers it may be some distance away, so ask your vet which one they use and call it directly.
What usually happens at a pet funeral in Singapore?
Most follow a loose shape: family gathers around the pet at home, at the clinic or in a farewell room at the crematory; someone says a few words; each person has a moment to say goodbye; then the pet is collected, cremated or buried. Many add one ritual, such as a candle, a flower or a letter. The whole thing often takes less than an hour.
