In Dubai, the practical questions are who can hold your pet until the family arrives, whether there's somewhere to sit together and what the rules are for burial.

Wherever you are, the same rule holds: keep your pet cool, indoors and out of direct sun while you plan the farewell. In warm weather, hold the home goodbye within a few hours or ask the vet to hold your pet in a cold room. In cold weather you have more time, but frozen ground can delay a burial.

Local rules worth checking in United Arab Emirates
If your pet was put to sleep, the drug stays in the body, and wildlife or other animals can be poisoned if a grave is dug up. That risk is one reason home burial is regulated at all, and why a well-covered grave or cremation matters. Here's what United Arab Emirates says.
In the UAE, animal burial isn't permitted in Dubai, and the municipal route is mass cremation with no ashes returned [6]. For a farewell, families use a private provider. Dubai's central veterinary laboratory lists an individual cremation with witnessing as a separate service, so being present is possible if you ask for it by name.
Your checklist for the first day
- Choose a day while your pet still has good moments, then arrange the vet's visit to the house and agree what happens afterwards, all in one call.
- Fill the days before with small favorites: a slow walk, a patch of sun, the treat that's usually off limits.
- Decide who will hold your pet and who would rather wait in another room. Staying and stepping out are equally loving, and no one should be pushed either way.
- Set out the blanket you're happy to send with them, with any drawing, note or toy that should go into the cremation or grave too.
- When the vet has finished, take as long as you need. The collection can wait an hour; ask them to step outside if you want privacy.
- Walk out to the car or van with your pet if you'd like to. Many teams use a stretcher or basket and will let you help carry.
After the farewell: ways to keep the memory close
Losing a pet far from your home country can feel especially lonely, particularly if the pet traveled with you and was part of your life in more than one place. Family abroad may not fully understand. Should young children come to a pet's farewell?
Usually yes, if they want to, with a simple role and a way to step out. Use plain words like 'died' rather than 'put to sleep', explain what they'll see, and keep it short. In a large RSPCA survey, 93.4%[7] of parents wanted better guidance on helping children through pet loss, so you're far from alone in wondering.
Is it normal to grieve this hard after a pet's funeral?
