Pet Funerals in the United Arab Emirates: what to know
Customs around death vary across the United Arab Emirates, and many families bring a little of their own tradition to a pet's farewell: a blessing, a candle, a shared meal. Below you'll find what pet funeral services typically cost here, the burial and scattering rules worth knowing and every community we cover in the United Arab Emirates.
Pet funerals in the United Arab Emirates range from a few minutes in the garden to a graveside service in a pet cemetery. What differs from country to country is how services are organised, what they cost and what the rules say about burial and scattering. This page covers the United Arab Emirates as a whole; each city page adds local weather and nearby options.
We cover 4 communities in the United Arab Emirates, from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah to smaller towns.

What local funeral habits mean for your pet
Whatever the local customs around human funerals, pet farewells tend to be simple and personal: a place, a few people, a few words and a clear plan for afterwards. In the United Arab Emirates, the practical questions are who can hold your pet until the family arrives, whether there's somewhere to sit together and what the rules are for burial.
What a pet funeral costs in the United Arab Emirates
Private cremation usually costs about twice as much as communal across the markets we track [1]. Before paying the difference in the United Arab Emirates, ask exactly what it buys: your pet cremated alone, the ashes returned, and perhaps time in a farewell room. If the ashes don't matter to you, a home goodbye followed by communal cremation is a gentle and honest choice.
Pet funeral services are available in and around the United Arab Emirates, though the choice varies a great deal by country. Ask any provider for a written quote in local currency that lists collection, the cremation or burial, the container for the ashes and any time in a farewell room. The table shows published prices elsewhere as a rough guide.

What you can and can't do in the United Arab Emirates
If your pet was put to sleep, the drug stays in the body, and wildlife or other animals can be poisoned if a grave is dug up. That risk is one reason home burial is regulated at all, and why a well-covered grave or cremation matters. Here's what the United Arab Emirates says.
In the UAE, animal burial isn't permitted in Dubai, and the municipal route is mass cremation with no ashes returned [6]. For a farewell, families use a private provider. Dubai's central veterinary laboratory lists an individual cremation with witnessing as a separate service, so being present is possible if you ask for it by name.
Planning a farewell in the United Arab Emirates, step by step
- Tell your child soon, somewhere quiet, in plain words: say the pet's name and that they died, rather than 'went to sleep' or 'went away'.
- Let them choose whether to see their pet ahead of the burial or pickup. Some children find that looking answers things they couldn't have asked out loud.
- Offer choices rather than jobs: which blanket, how to decorate the box, or whether to draw a card that goes with their pet.
- Keep the ceremony to about ten minutes and let them say something, or nothing, without anyone correcting them.
- Expect questions later, often at bedtime, and answer them honestly and briefly.
- Let their teacher or childminder know, which means a withdrawn or tearful child makes sense to the grown-ups at school.
The weeks and months after the goodbye
If scattering matters to you, keep a little of the ashes back in a keepsake urn before you scatter the rest. That way, a move, a change of heart or a new family member doesn't leave anyone without something to hold. Scatter quietly, downwind and away from paths, and check the rules for the place you choose.

Questions people ask
Can children be part of a pet's farewell in the United Arab Emirates?
Yes, and most families find it helps. Give each child a small job, such as choosing a flower or drawing a picture to go with the pet, use plain words like 'died', keep it short and let them step out whenever they want. Our blog has age-by-age ideas.
What usually happens at a pet funeral in the United Arab Emirates?
Most follow a loose shape: family gathers around the pet at home, at the clinic or in a farewell room at the crematory; someone says a few words; each person has a moment to say goodbye; then the pet is collected, cremated or buried. Many add one ritual, such as a candle, a flower or a letter. The whole thing often takes less than an hour.
Where can I scatter my pet's ashes in the United Arab Emirates?
Private land with the owner's permission is simplest. Parks, beaches and public land have their own rules, and many ask you to request permission first. Choose a quiet spot, scatter low and downwind, away from paths and water, and consider keeping a little back in a keepsake.
Where can I find a pet cemetery in the United Arab Emirates?
Pet cemeteries are most common around the larger cities in the United Arab Emirates, and some human cemeteries now have pet sections. Ask your vet, check your city page on this site or send us a note. When you call a cemetery, ask who owns the land, what perpetual care covers and whether graveside services are allowed.
How much does a pet funeral cost in the United Arab Emirates?
The farewell itself can cost almost nothing if it's held at home. The main costs are cremation or burial, plus any viewing, witnessed cremation or headstone. Big-city providers and cemeteries usually charge more; rural areas may add mileage. Ask any provider in the United Arab Emirates for a written, itemized total before you agree.
Do I need a permit to hold a pet funeral in the United Arab Emirates?
Not for the farewell itself. Gathering at home, saying a few words and holding a small ceremony need no permission anywhere in the United Arab Emirates. Permits come into it for what happens next: burial on someone else's land, scattering in parks, on beaches or on water, and any use of a public space for a larger gathering. When in doubt, ask the landowner or the local council first.
