Pet Funerals in Abu Dhabi: what to know
In the larger places across Abu Dhabi, such as Abu Dhabi, families usually have a choice of crematories, in-home vets and at least one pet cemetery within reach. In smaller towns, the goodbye tends to happen at home or on family land, and the cremation itself takes place in a regional centre, which can mean a drive if you want to be present.
The first call to a provider anywhere in Abu Dhabi is easier with four facts ready: your pet's weight, where they are now, whether you want the ashes back and whether anyone wants to be present. With those, a crematory or cemetery can give you a real price and a time. They're also what our request form asks for.

What local funeral habits mean for your pet
Funeral customs vary a great deal from place to place, and they shape what feels right for a pet too. Some families in Abu Dhabi want a blessing or prayer, some want a quiet hour alone, some want everyone round for food. There's no correct form. Borrow whatever your own traditions offer and keep it small enough to plan in a day.
The real cost of a pet goodbye in Abu Dhabi
A yardstick helps where local prices are hard to find. Across 12 published prices in 10 countries, private cremation for a medium dog has a median of about US$294, ranging from $186 to $415, by our estimate [1]. Ask providers near Abu Dhabi for a written total in local currency, then set it against that range.
Because services and rules differ so much between countries, the first call in Abu Dhabi is usually to your vet, who'll know which crematory or cemetery they trust. Ask whether the ashes are returned, whether you can be present and whether there's time for a short ceremony. Published prices from other places are below for comparison.
| Place and service | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| UAE: separate cremation, pet up to 30 kg | AED 2,300 to 2,700 [2] | Burial not permitted in Dubai |
| UAE: shared cremation, small pet | AED 700 to 900 [2] | No individual ashes |
| US: private dog cremation (average) | $260[3] | For comparison |
| US: pet cemetery burial, dog (average) | $831[4] | For comparison |

Local rules worth checking in Abu Dhabi
If your pet was put to sleep, the drug stays in the body, and wildlife or other animals can be poisoned if a grave is dug up. That risk is one reason home burial is regulated at all, and why a well-covered grave or cremation matters. Here's what Abu Dhabi says.
In the UAE, animal burial isn't permitted in Dubai, and the municipal route is mass cremation with no ashes returned [6]. For a farewell, families use a private provider. Dubai's central veterinary laboratory lists an individual cremation with witnessing as a separate service, so being present is possible if you ask for it by name.
Planning a farewell in Abu Dhabi, step by step
- Ask the clinic for a quiet room and some time, whether or not everything happened quickly. There's no rule that says you must walk out right after.
- Don't sign the aftercare form on the spot if you're unsure. The practice can hold your pet in cold storage for a day; ask for that and take the time to decide.
- Find out which crematory the practice uses, then ask if you're free to pick another provider, or to bring your pet home and bury them yourself.
- Request a paw print or a clipping of fur before your pet leaves the room; it's much harder to arrange later.
- If family couldn't get there in time, ask whether they can visit the clinic to say goodbye before the collection.
- Get the aftercare price on its own line, separate from the medical bill, so you can see what the farewell part costs.
- Pencil in a gathering for later, for when the ashes are back or at the graveside, for the people who missed the day.
Marking the loss, now and later
The first year brings dates that catch people off guard: your pet's birthday, the first holiday without them, the anniversary of the last vet visit. Put them in the calendar now with something small attached, such as a walk or a candle. If you'd like a lasting marker, our memorial stone planner helps you work out wording, size and cost.

Questions people ask
Is a pet funeral usual in Abu Dhabi?
Small farewells are common almost everywhere. For people, about a majority of deaths in Abu Dhabi end in cremation, and pet habits tend to follow: where cremation is usual, the farewell often centres on the ashes; where burial is usual, a graveside moment in the garden feels natural.
Where can I scatter my pet's ashes in Abu Dhabi?
Private land with the owner's permission is simplest. Parks, beaches and public land have their own rules, and many ask you to request permission first. Choose a quiet spot, scatter low and downwind, away from paths and water, and consider keeping a little back in a keepsake.
Can I be present at my pet's cremation in Abu Dhabi?
Many crematories offer witnessed or attended cremation, especially around the larger cities. It usually costs more and needs booking ahead. In rural parts of Abu Dhabi, the nearest crematory that offers it may be some distance away, so ask your vet which one they use and call it directly.
Where can I find a pet cemetery in Abu Dhabi?
Pet cemeteries are most common around the larger cities in Abu Dhabi, and some human cemeteries now have pet sections. Ask your vet, check your city page on this site or send us a note. When you call a cemetery, ask who owns the land, what perpetual care covers and whether graveside services are allowed.
What usually happens at a pet funeral in Abu Dhabi?
Most follow a loose shape: family gathers around the pet at home, at the clinic or in a farewell room at the crematory; someone says a few words; each person has a moment to say goodbye; then the pet is collected, cremated or buried. Many add one ritual, such as a candle, a flower or a letter. The whole thing often takes less than an hour.
What does a pet funeral cost in Abu Dhabi compared with the US?
Prices differ by country and currency, but the pattern is the same: individual cremation costs more than communal, a cemetery grave more than cremation, and a farewell room or attended service adds to either. Published examples for Abu Dhabi are in the table above; ask local providers for a written quote.
