Pet Funerals in Delhi: what to know
In the larger places across Delhi, such as Delhi, families usually have a choice of crematories, in-home vets and at least one pet cemetery within reach. In smaller towns, the goodbye tends to happen at home or on family land, and the cremation itself takes place in a regional centre, which can mean a drive if you want to be present.
Not every farewell in Delhi involves a crematory or a cemetery. Some families bury on their own land, some choose communal cremation and hold a goodbye at home first, and some keep the ceremony entirely private. Each is a respectful choice. This page sets out the costs and rules so you can pick the one that fits your family.

Local customs and your pet's farewell
About 80%[1] of people in Delhi are cremated, so most families here have been to a cremation service and know how one feels. That familiarity carries over to pets: a viewing before cremation, a few words said and ashes brought home is a pattern people recognise. It also means crematories are well established, and a farewell room or witnessed cremation is easier to find.
Wikipedia: Cremation by country (citing National Geographic) (2014) publishes the Delhi rate we quote. Read it as the local custom around cremation rather than as pet data.
Budgeting for a farewell in Delhi
Pet funerals are an established tradition in much of Asia, and prices reflect the ceremony. In Tokyo, one memorial park charges JPY 60,500 for a witnessed cremation of a 20–30 kg dog with a monk chanting, against JPY 38,500 for individual cremation alone [2]. Simpler options exist; ask what each package in Delhi includes.
Public and private options can differ hugely. Tokyo's Shinjuku ward collects pets under 25 kg for a JPY 3,000 fee with communal cremation and no ashes returned [3]; a private communal cremation for a small pet costs about 4.8 times that, by our estimate [4]. In one Japanese survey, about 30% of owners felt a funeral would help them avoid regret [5].
| Place and service | Price | What's included |
|---|---|---|
| Tokyo: witnessed cremation, 20–30 kg dog | JPY 60,500 [2] | Attended, with a monk chanting |
| Tokyo: individual cremation, 20–30 kg dog | JPY 38,500 [2] | Without attending |
| Japan: pet funeral hall package | JPY 60,000 to 80,000 [6] | Ceremony and cremation, 1–5 kg to 25–30 kg pet |
| Singapore: private cremation, 10–20 kg dog | SGD 480 [7] | Columbarium niche from SGD 300 |
| Hong Kong: individual cremation, 20–30 kg dog | HKD 3,000 [8] | Check whether a farewell ceremony is included |

What Delhi allows for burial and scattering
Beaches, rivers and lakes often have their own scattering rules, set by a different authority from parks, and some ask you to scatter a set distance from shore. Here's the general picture for Delhi; for the exact spot, check with whoever manages that land or water.
In India, dedicated pet cremation services are growing in the larger cities, and some operators offer Hindu rituals performed by a priest as part of the farewell. Customs differ by faith and family, so say what you'd like on the first call, whether that's prayers, flowers or simply time together.
From first call to farewell: the steps
- Find a small box and soft bedding, such as a shoebox lined with a cloth or some of their own nesting material.
- Choose between cremation and a garden grave. A very small animal produces only a trace of ash; ask the crematory how it's kept apart from other pets' and what container it's returned in.
- For a garden grave, pick a spot on land you expect to keep, check the local rules, and plan a marker such as a flat stone or a pot plant.
- Invite whoever looked after them, and that can be just a parent and a child. Small creatures leave surprisingly large holes.
- Say a few words or read a note, and finish by placing a flower, or a little of the food they loved most, on the box.
- Clear the cage, hutch or tank slowly over a few days, rather than the same afternoon, so the room doesn't feel suddenly empty.
Marking the loss, now and later
If people who loved your pet live far away, a video call during the farewell or a shared online photo album lets them take part. You don't need a paid service; a free call and a shared folder work well. Ask each person to add one photo and one line, and you'll have a keepsake nobody could have made alone.
If Delhi is not quite where you are, all locations has the rest. Otherwise the services page, the tools and the poll results are the useful next stops.

Questions people ask
How much does a pet funeral cost in Delhi?
The farewell itself can cost almost nothing if it's held at home. The main costs are cremation or burial, plus any viewing, witnessed cremation or headstone. Big-city providers and cemeteries usually charge more; rural areas may add mileage. Ask any provider in Delhi for a written, itemized total before you agree.
Do I need a permit to hold a pet funeral in Delhi?
Not for the farewell itself. Gathering at home, saying a few words and holding a small ceremony need no permission anywhere in Delhi. Permits come into it for what happens next: burial on someone else's land, scattering in parks, on beaches or on water, and any use of a public space for a larger gathering. When in doubt, ask the landowner or the local council first.
Can I bury my pet at home in Delhi?
Often yes, with conditions such as burial depth, distance from wells and waterways and whether you own the land. Cities and homeowner associations can be stricter than the wider rules. If you rent or might move, cremation followed by burying the ashes in a planter keeps the grave portable.
Is a pet funeral usual in Delhi?
Small farewells are common almost everywhere. For people, about 80%[1] of deaths in Delhi end in cremation, and pet habits tend to follow: where cremation is usual, the farewell often centres on the ashes; where burial is usual, a graveside moment in the garden feels natural.
Where can I find a pet cemetery in Delhi?
Pet cemeteries are most common around the larger cities in Delhi, and some human cemeteries now have pet sections. Ask your vet, check your city page on this site or send us a note. When you call a cemetery, ask who owns the land, what perpetual care covers and whether graveside services are allowed.
Where can I scatter my pet's ashes in Delhi?
Private land with the owner's permission is simplest. Parks, beaches and public land have their own rules, and many ask you to request permission first. Choose a quiet spot, scatter low and downwind, away from paths and water, and consider keeping a little back in a keepsake.
