How families in Corinth say goodbye to a pet
Loss tends to arrive in surges, and for commuters the hardest moment may be the evening return to a house where no one comes to greet you. Give yourself time, and change small routines if it helps. Children need simple, honest answers and a job to do, such as decorating a garden stone with markers or picking the photo that goes in the frame.
Some Corinth families hold a backyard farewell after dark, lighting a candle on the patio table and going around the circle with stories. Others keep things low-key and private, just the household and a quiet evening. If seeing your pet one more time before cremation, or attending the cremation, is important to you, bring it up at once and ask what is possible.
In Corinth, the church hall, the community centre or a friendly café may be the natural place to gather after a pet's farewell, especially if half the town knew your dog from walks down the main street. A tea urn, a table of photos and an hour on a weekday afternoon is often all it takes.
Corinth is home to about 25,297 people, the 127th-largest of the 325 Texas communities we cover. Frisco, roughly 14 miles off, is the closest larger centre, and a share of the providers who cover Corinth run from there.
The closest communities we cover are Denton (6 miles, a larger centre), Lewisville (8 miles, a larger centre) and Flower Mound (9 miles, a larger centre). Providers serving those towns often travel to Corinth too, so it can be worth asking them for a quote.
Our estimate
9,300
How many dog- or cat-owning households Corinth has (estimate)
How we calculated this
25,297 ÷ 2.5 = 10,119 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 9,300. A household with several pets counts once.
Our estimate
780
dog and cat deaths per year in Corinth, our estimate
How we calculated this
9,300 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 780 a year. The real figure is unlikely to be lower.

53% of US households own a dog, which is about 71 million households.
12.69 years[2]
US dogs have an average life expectancy at birth of 12.69 years.
39%[3]
39% of US households own a cat, which is about 53 million households.
11.18 years[4]
US cats seen at Banfield hospitals have an average life expectancy at birth of 11.18 years.
If a number here surprises you, the primary material is American Pet Products Association (APPA) 2025 State of the Industry and Montoya et al. 2023, Frontiers in Veterinary Science; we only apply it to this.

Local customs and your pet's farewell
Even with cremation at around 55.7%[5] in Texas, grandparents may have grown up burying the family dog under a tree, while their grandchildren expect an urn on the shelf. Asking an older relative to lead one part of the farewell, perhaps choosing the spot or saying the first words, brings their experience into a goodbye the younger generation has planned.
We take the Texas rate from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). It is a human statistic; there is no equivalent pet figure for Corinth, and we would rather show a real number than invent one.
How the seasons in Corinth affect the day
Warm weather brings flies, which can upset children at an outdoor goodbye. Wrap your pet in a light cotton sheet with only the face showing, keep the outdoor part in deep shade and keep it short. During Corinth's June, July, August and September, many families simply move the ceremony indoors, with the curtains drawn and a fan running.
If family need a day or two to arrive in hot weather, don't try to keep your pet at home. Ask the vet or crematory to hold your pet in their cold room, then book a viewing there when everyone is in town. It gives you unhurried time together without worrying about the heat of July.

Where the money goes in a Corinth pet funeral
If cost is on your mind, you're in good company: in a survey of more than 2,000 US owners, 61% said the cost of body care worried them [6]. Cemetery burial is less alarming for smaller pets. Across five posted US price lists, the median whole-body burial for a small pet, plot and opening included, is ~$350[7] by our estimate. Ask cemeteries near Corinth for a cremains plot price too.

What Texas allows for burial and scattering
Most of what happens at a pet funeral is up to you. The exceptions are home burial, which Texas and your city or county may regulate, and scattering ashes in parks or on land you don't own, which usually needs the owner's permission. The key points are below.
To find your county or city office in Texas, start with the official Texas local government directory.
The rules that apply across Texas (home burial, scattering and who oversees pet cremation) are summarized on our Texas page. Corinth may add its own conditions, so check with the city or county before digging.
Your checklist for the first day
- Ask the clinic for a quiet room and some time, whether or not everything happened quickly. There's no rule that says you must walk out right after.
- Don't sign the aftercare form on the spot if you're unsure. Ask the clinic to keep your pet in their cold room for a day while you think.
- Find out which crematory the practice uses, and whether you can choose a different one or take your pet home for burial instead.
- Request a paw print or a clipping of fur before your pet leaves the room; it's much harder to arrange later.
- If family couldn't get there in time, ask if the clinic will let them come in for their own goodbye before the pickup.
- Get the aftercare price on its own line, kept apart from the treatment charges, so the cost of the farewell itself is plain to see.
- Pencil in a gathering for later, for when the ashes are back or at the graveside, for the people who missed the day.
Anniversaries, gatherings and quiet reminders
Corinth sits right next to Denton, a college town with two universities, and between Denton and Lewisville grief groups, counselors and end-of-life vets are a short drive away. National helplines are open around the clock for anyone who needs to talk. Your regular clinic can also suggest local resources, and many will send a sympathy card or a paw print if you ask.

Questions people ask
Is cremation common in Texas?
For people, yes: about 55.7%[5] of Texas deaths end in cremation, according to NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Corinth follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Roughly how many pets die in Corinth each year?
Our estimate is around 780. It comes from Corinth's population (about 25,297), the average household size, the share of homes with a dog or cat (about 9,300 households here) and the average lifespan. It is arithmetic, not a count, so read it as a rough floor.
Will I have to travel to Frisco to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Frisco (roughly 14 miles from Corinth) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Does the Corinth climate change what I should do first?
Only the timing. In July, with highs near 96°F, cool the body and book collection the same day. Winters here are mild enough that burial or scattering is possible in any month.
How soon should a pet funeral happen?
There's no fixed rule. Many families hold a short farewell on the day, before collection or burial, and a larger gathering later when the ashes come home. If people need time to travel, ask the vet or crematory to hold your pet in a cold room and book a viewing there when everyone arrives.
What do you say at a pet's funeral?
Something true and specific: their name, one habit that made everyone laugh and one thing you'll miss. A short poem, a prayer or a favorite song works if words are hard. Many families ask each person to share one memory. Two or three minutes of speaking is plenty, and nobody expects polish.
