What local burial and cremation customs suggest
About 55.7%[5] of people in Texas are cremated, so both traditions sit side by side here. Some families will instinctively want to bury their pet, others to bring the ashes home. A farewell works with either: a graveside moment in the garden or a pet cemetery, or a short ceremony before the pet is collected for cremation.

Permissions to check in Texas before the ceremony
Most of what happens at a pet funeral is up to you. The exceptions are home burial, which Texas and your city or county may regulate, and scattering ashes in parks or on land you don't own, which usually needs the owner's permission. The key points are below.

Your checklist for the first day
- Ask the clinic for a quiet room and some time, even if the decision was made in a rush. You don't have to leave straight away.
- Don't sign the aftercare form on the spot if you're unsure. The practice can hold your pet in cold storage for a day; ask for that and take the time to decide.
- Find out which crematory the practice uses, then ask if you're free to pick another provider, or to bring your pet home and bury them yourself.
- Request a paw print or a clipping of fur while your pet is still in the room; once they've gone it's far harder to organize.
- If family couldn't get there in time, ask if the clinic will let them come in for their own goodbye before the pickup.
- Get the aftercare price on its own line, kept apart from the treatment charges, so the cost of the farewell itself is plain to see.
- Pencil in a gathering for later, for when the ashes are back or at the graveside, for the people who missed the day.

Which nearby towns can I compare with Cibolo?
The closest communities we cover are Schertz (about 2 miles), Universal City (about 4 miles) and Converse (about 6 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Cibolo too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Will I have to travel to San Antonio to arrange things?

Possibly, but it may mean a drive. Smaller places often send pets to a crematory in a larger centre such as San Antonio, so ask your vet which one they use and call it directly. Some families take their pet there themselves, hold the farewell in the car park or a quiet room, and stay while the cremation begins.
