Pet Funerals in Valencia: what to know
Prices for the same farewell can vary a lot within Valencia. Home euthanasia, private cremation and cemetery plots tend to cost more in and around Valencia and Alicante, and less in smaller towns, though a long collection drive can wipe out the saving. Whatever you choose, ask each provider for a single written total before anything is booked.
The first call to a provider anywhere in Valencia is easier with four facts ready: your pet's weight, where they are now, whether you want the ashes back and whether anyone wants to be present. With those, a crematory or cemetery can give you a real price and a time. They're also what our request form asks for.

What local burial and cremation customs suggest
When a place splits its funerals between burial and cremation, as Valencia does with about 50.11%[1] cremated, local providers usually offer both, and the choice often comes down to one question: do you want a place to visit, or something to keep close? A grave fixes the memorial to one spot; ashes can move house with you.
The cremation figure for Valencia comes from Infobae, citing PANASEF (Spanish funeral services association) (2024). It counts people, not pets, so treat it as a guide to local attitudes rather than a pet statistic.
Pet farewell prices for Valencia families
Smaller pets cost far less to cremate, which leaves more of the budget for the farewell itself. In Ireland, one crematorium lists individual cremation from EUR 150 for pets under 2 kg [2], and in France a 20 kg dog costs EUR 150–250 individually against EUR 70–120 collectively [3]. Ask providers near Valencia for the same breakdown in writing.
Timing has a price in some countries. Swedish vets say ashes usually take 2-4 weeks[4] to come back, while one Norwegian crematorium charges NOK 1,790 extra for same-day return [5]. In the Netherlands, individual cremation averages about EUR 300 [6]. Rather than paying for speed in Valencia, many families simply set the family get-together around the day the ashes arrive.

What you can and can't do in Valencia
A grave in the garden stays with the house when you sell it, which is the question few people ask at the graveside. Before you bury, think about where you'll be living in five or ten years, then check the Valencia notes below.
From first call to farewell: the steps
- Check gently that your pet has died: no breathing, no heartbeat against the chest, eyes open and still. If you're not sure, ring an emergency vet.
- Close the eyes if you can and curl the legs softly so your pet looks asleep; do this inside the first two hours or so, while the body is still supple.
- Slide an old towel or puppy pad underneath. It's normal for the bladder or bowel to empty after death, and it doesn't mean anything went wrong.
- Let your other animals come and sniff should they show interest. Plenty of owners believe this helps the remaining pets make sense of why the bed is now empty.
- If it's the middle of the night and the house is cool, leave the calls until morning. A quiet night beside your pet is allowed.
- Before collection or burial, hold ten minutes of goodbye, so the last memory is yours and not a stranger at the front door.
Remembering your pet in Valencia
If people who loved your pet live far away, a video call during the farewell or a shared online photo album lets them take part. You don't need a paid service; a free call and a shared folder work well. Ask each person to add one photo and one line, and you'll have a keepsake nobody could have made alone.

Questions people ask
Can I be present at my pet's cremation in Valencia?
Many crematories offer witnessed or attended cremation, especially around the larger cities. It usually costs more and needs booking ahead. In rural parts of Valencia, the nearest crematory that offers it may be some distance away, so ask your vet which one they use and call it directly.
What usually happens at a pet funeral in Valencia?
Most follow a loose shape: family gathers around the pet at home, at the clinic or in a farewell room at the crematory; someone says a few words; each person has a moment to say goodbye; then the pet is collected, cremated or buried. Many add one ritual, such as a candle, a flower or a letter. The whole thing often takes less than an hour.
Can children be part of a pet's farewell in Valencia?
Yes, and most families find it helps. Give each child a small job, such as choosing a flower or drawing a picture to go with the pet, use plain words like 'died', keep it short and let them step out whenever they want. Our blog has age-by-age ideas.
Can I bury my pet at home in Valencia?
Often yes, with conditions such as burial depth, distance from wells and waterways and whether you own the land. Cities and homeowner associations can be stricter than the wider rules. If you rent or might move, cremation followed by burying the ashes in a planter keeps the grave portable.
How many communities do you cover in Valencia?
We have local pet funeral guides for 2 communities in Valencia, including Valencia and Alicante. Each page covers local weather and timing for outdoor farewells, typical costs, burial and scattering rules and how to plan a goodbye within a day.
Do I need a permit to hold a pet funeral in Valencia?
Not for the farewell itself. Gathering at home, saying a few words and holding a small ceremony need no permission anywhere in Valencia. Permits come into it for what happens next: burial on someone else's land, scattering in parks, on beaches or on water, and any use of a public space for a larger gathering. When in doubt, ask the landowner or the local council first.
